NTL BASEBALL: WILLIAMSON TOPS NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD FOR FIRST WIN (2023-03-30)

TIOGA JUNCTION — Williamson opened up a two-run game with a four run fourth inning against NP-Mansfield here Thursday, then held the Tigers off and claimed their first win of the season, 8-4.

Williamson starter Erik Berkan spread seven NPM hits across seven innings and allowed four runs .. two earned .. to get the win. The senior walked one and had nine strikeouts, and contributed at the plate with a pair of hits, two RBI and two runs scored.

The Tigers would score first when Alex Davis singled and Derek Litzelman knocked him in for an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, before Williamson got the run back in the bottom half when Connor Monroe reached on an error and Cody Fleming brought him in with a single to tie the game at one.

Williamson added a pair of runs in the second inning on a Berkan two-run single that scored Christian Ling and Monroe, who had each singled.

The 3-1 score would stand until the bottom of the fourth when Williamson would plate four more runs on Berkan, Fleming and Jack Nolan base hits. 

Down 7-1, NP-Mansfield rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth when Davis singled, Litzelman reached on an error, Shaw ripped a two-RBI double, Karson Dominick reached on an error and Kohen Lehman singled in a run.

Williamson added to their three-run lead in the fifth on a Fleming RBI double that scored Berkan, who had drawn a walk, and Berkan shut the Tigers down in the final two innings, going 1-2-3 in both the sixth and seventh to secure Williamson’s first win of the season. 

Fleming, Ling and Tyler VanDelinder joined Berkan in having multi-hit games as each had two and Ling and Fleming each had an RBI and scored a run. Nolan had a hit, a run scored and two RBI, Monroe had a hit and scored twice and Sawyer Carlton scored a run.

For NP-Mansfield, Davis and Cody Hermansen had two hits each, while Lehman had a single and Shaw had a double. Litzelman had an RBI and scored a run, Davis scored twice and Shaw had two RBI and scored once.

Dominick started and went three and two-thirds innings and gave up two earned runs (7) on five hits, no walks and five strikeouts. Shaw threw an inning and a third and allowed one run on two hits with one K and Litzelman pitched one inning and allowed one hit and had one strikeout.

Williamson (1-2) is scheduled to visit Northeast Bradford next Thursday, while NP-Mansfield (1-1) hosts Wyalusing Monday.
