NTWSR PRESENTS THE LAUREL HEALTH 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2023-04-02)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Our local athletes provided a number of outstanding performances in the first full week of the Spring sports’ season and NTWSR recognizes the following student/athletes as our Laurel Health Athletes of the Week.

BOYS TENNIS
The North Penn-Liberty boys’ tennis team
The Mounties earned their first match win since 2021, edging Cowanesque Valley 3-2 despite giving up a forfeit at No. 3 singles. Daniel Harman won at No. 1 singles, Riley Novitske won at No. 2 singles and Owen Loudenslager and James Nearhoof won at No. 1 doubles.

BASEBALL
Cameron Brought, Wellsboro
Brought helped the Hornets to a 2-0 week. The senior had a hit, two runs and closed the game out throwing two innings and allowing no runs and one hit with no walks and three K’s in a win over Williamson. Brought then threw three scoreless, hitless innings with seven strikeouts in a win over NEB, adding two hits and three RBI at the plate.

SOFTBALL
Mackenzi Tice, NP-Liberty
Tice threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts against defending small-school champ NEB to open the season .. adding a double, an RBI and three runs scored from the plate .. then went four innings and gave up two unearned runs on two hits, no walks and nine K’s in a win over Williamson. The junior also had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs in the win over Williamson.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Annika Gehman, Wellsboro
Gehman, a sophomore, won the high jump (4-08), the long jump (13-11.5) and the triple jump (33-08.5) in the Hornets’ season-opener against Sayre.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Duncan Kerr, Williamson
Kerr won both hurdle events .. the 110 in 16.90 and the 300 in 43.70 .. in Williamson’s season-opening win over Wyalusing.
