NTWSR PRESENTS THE LAUREL HEALTH 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2023-04-09)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — NTWSR is proud to recognize the following student athletes as our ‘Laurel Health Athletes of the Week’ in baseball, softball, boys and girls’ track & field and boys tennis.
BASEBALL
Cameron Brought, Wellsboro
The Hornets went 1-2 this week, but it wasn’t from a lack of offensive production as they scored 30 runs on the week. Brought batted .636 in the three games, with a home run, a triple, a double, four singles, four runs scored, three walks and six RBI. The senior also threw six and two-thirds innings in two of Wellsboro’s three games, allowing no runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
SOFTBALL
Haley Litzelman, NP-Liberty
The freshman helped the Lady Mounties to a 2-0 week, collecting four hits (2 doubles), an RBI and a run scored in an 11-1 win over Wellsboro, where Litzelman also pitched the final inning and gave up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. In the Mounties’ 6-1 win over Wyalusing, she had a pair of hits, with a double, and had an RBI and a run scored.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Kristian Mizdail, Williamson
The junior distance specialist led the Warriors to a sweep at their quad-meet with Towanda, NEB and Montgomery, winning the 3200 meter run in 10:00.8 and the 1600 in 4:31.2.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Tierney Patterson, NP-Mansfield
Patterson had the Lady Tigers’ lone event win in a quad-meet with Troy, Wyalusing and Sayre, winning the shot put with a throw of 26-2.50. The junior thrower also finished third in the javelin (82-0) and fourth in the discus (64-1).
BOYS TENNIS
Peyton McClure, Wellsboro
The first-year senior had Wellsboro’s lone win in a 4-1 loss to Jersey Shore .. 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 Singles .. and helped the Hornets to a 3-2 win over CV with his 6-3, 6-1 win, also at No. 1 Singles.
