NTL SOFTBALL: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY EDGES LADY TROJANS TO STAY UNBEATEN (2023-05-12)

MANSFIELD — North Penn-Liberty withstood a push by Troy and topped the Lady Trojans 5-4 for an NTL-I win and to stay unbeaten on the season.

After the Trojans scored a run to open the game, the Lady Mounties scored three runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-1 lead that held until the fourth inning.

Troy scored three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead and the Lady Mounties took the game back over with two runs in the fifth inning. 

Haley Litzelman took over in the circle in the top of the sixth and threw the final two innings, allowing no runs and two hits with a strikeout. Mackenzi Tice started, going five innings and giving up four runs (2 earned) on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Payton Chapel led NPL with three base hits, four RBI and a run scored, while Tice also had three hits, with a double, and an RBI.

Mckenna Lightner had a double and scored two runs while Nikki Kiscadden, Megan Spohn and Litzelman had hits and Spohn and Addie Smith scored runs.

The Mounties (16-0-1) have three games left, all on the road, starting Monday at Sayre, followed by Athens on Tuesday and Addison, NY on Wednesday.
