NTL SOFTBALL: NTL CHAMPION LADY MOUNTIES TOP ATHENS TO FINISH UNDEFEATED IN LEAGUE PLAY (2023-05-16)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportATHENS — It took North Penn-Liberty’s bats a bit to get going here against Athens Tuesday, but Mackenzi Tice threw a complete-game one-hit shutout and the Lady Mounties scored runs late to earn a 4-0 win and complete an NTL sweep.
The NTL-I Champion Mounties finish their league schedule with a perfect 15-0 mark.
NPL and Athens played four scoreless innings before the Lady Mounties plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning and added their final run in the sixth.
Tice went seven innings and allowed no runs on one hit and a walk with 12 strikeouts.
Megan Spohn had a pair of base hits, with a double, and scored a run, while Alexia Kshir had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Saige Lehman and Payton Chapel each had a base hit and Haley Litzelman and Kaylee Graham each scored a run.
NP-Liberty moves to 18-0-1 on the season with the win. They have one regular-season game remaining, Wednesday at Addison, NY.
