HIGH SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD: WILLIAMSON DISTANCE RELAY WINS DISTRICT 4 CHAMPIONSHIP (2023-05-18)

WILLIAMSPORT — The Williamson boys’ 4x800 meter relay team of Nathaniel Welch, Duncan Kerr, Kristian Mizdail and Owen Cummings won the title for the Warriors at Thursday’s Day 1 of the District 4 Championships, qualifying the quartet of a trip to States.

Welch opened the 4x800 meter relay race with a 56.77 400 meters and ran a 1:01.03 second lap, followed by Kerr’s laps of 58.52 and 1:05.76, Mizdail’s 57.61 and 1:03.68 and Cummings’ 56.17 and 1:03.19.

Williamson was well under the state qualifying time of 8:15.55, and three other District 4 AA teams made the time and will qualify for States (Hughesville, Danville, Midd-West).

Kerr would just miss out on making the 110 meter hurdle finals on Saturday, finishing 9th (16.13, 16.81), while Steven Hepfer was 17th in the long jump (18-00.00), Cody Peers finished 22nd in the javelin (123-00) and Stephen Gohr was 22nd in the 100 meter dash (11.88).

Jade Colwell was Williamson’s lone competitor Thursday, finishing 12th in the 100 meter dash in 13.23.

Colwell (200) and Kyra Daley (400) will compete for the Lady Warriors on Saturday.

The boys squad will have: Elias Kaufman (400, 4x400), Welch (800, 3200), Mizdail (800, 1600, 3200), Cummings (800, 4x400), Kerr (300H, 4x400), Fletcher Good (HJ, TJ), Kade Ficks (PV), Ean Bump (DISC) and Jordan Monroe (4x400).
