HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY TO HOST NORTHEAST BRADFORD IN FIRST ROUND OF DISTRICTS (2023-05-21)

WESTFIELD — The NTL-II Champion Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians are scheduled to enter the District 4 Class AA playoffs by hosting small school-foe Northeast Bradford in the first round on Tuesday.

CV and NEB split a pair of games this season, with the Lady Panthers winning the first match-up 18-8 on April 3rd and CV taking the second game 12-1 two weeks ago.

NEB used a seven run fifth inning to break the game open and pull away for the win in the first game. Cowanesque Valley collected 10 hits, led by Keyana Thomas’ four-hit day, which included a double, two RBI and two runs scored and an Ashley Woodring home run.

Laynie LaBarron took the loss for CV, going seven innings and allowing 18 runs on seven hits and nine walks with seven strikeouts.

In the second match-up, CV would take advantage of a big inning .. an 8-run third .. to earn the win. 

Cowanesque Valley got production throughout their lineup with 11 base hits .. two each by Woodring, Maddie Millard, Zeraya Wilson and Logan Hamilton ..  and Ruby Sherman spread four Panther hits, five walks and five strikeouts across five innings .. in front of a strong CV defense .. to earn the win.

CV has won their last nine games and have outscored their last six opponents 85-8, while NEB is 3-3 in their last six games, with the losses coming to CV, Canton and Class AA top-seed South Williamsport.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
