NTWSR PRESENTS THE ALL-TIOGA COUNTY SOFTBALL TEAMS & AWARD WINNERS (2023-06-16)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — It was a banner year for softball in the West this season and NTWSR is proud to recognize the outstanding play of our All-Tioga County Softball Teams and individual award honorees.
North Penn-Liberty’s historic season included an undefeated regular season, an NTL title, a District 4 Class AAA championship, a State playoff win and a 22-1-1 record.
Cowanesque Valley won the small-school title, going 16-4 overall, 12-2 in the league and 7-1 in the division and fell in the first round of Districts to NEB.
Williamson went 3-11 in the NTL and 2-6 in the small school division for the second straight season, but did earn two more non-league wins to finish 8-11, and Wellsboro finished 4-16 on the season, beating Athens, Coudersport and Sayre twice.
NPL’s Mackenzi Tice is the NTWSR All-Tioga County Softball Offensive Player, Pitcher and overall Player of the Year. The junior went 19-1 in the circle for the Lady Mounties, throwing 136 innings with a 1.24 ERA and 195 strikeouts. At the plate, Tice hit .484 with a .505 on-base-percentage and had 46 base hits (13 doubles, 1 HR), 33 runs scored and 21 RBI.
Tice’s battery mate, catcher Saige Lehman, is the NTWSR All-Tioga County Softball Defensive Player. The junior was vital to the Mounties both behind the plate and at it .. hitting .341 with 28 base hits, 27 runs scored and 13 RBI.
The NTWSR All-Tioga County Softball Rookie is NPL’s Haley Litzelman. The Mounties’ clean-up hitter had a .402 batting average with 33 base hits (8 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR), 26 runs scored and 36 RBI. The freshman also threw 23 innings and had a 3-0 record with a 0.61 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
The Softball Coach of the Year goes to North Penn-Liberty Head Coach Jason Chapel and his staff.
