Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — In a season full of success in the West .. culminating with a State Championship for the Williamson 4x800 meter relay team .. let’s take a look back at the top seasons, games and performances with our All-Tioga County ’Super 7’ Storylines of the Spring.
7. North Penn-Liberty Boys Tennis Earns First Win In Two Seasons
The Mounties topped CV 3-2 in just their third match of the season, after going 0-11 in ’22 and 1-9 in ’21. They’d top CV again later in the season for their second and final win of the season.
6. Wellsboro Baseball Beats Undefeated Athens In 10 With Pair Of Freshman Pitchers
Wellsboro rallied from four runs down to force extra innings with undefeated Athens back on May 9th, scored in the top of the 10th inning and earned a 9-7 NTL-I win over the Wildcats. Freshman Drayden McGee started on the mound for Wellsboro and went three and two-third innings and allowed seven runs (4 earned) on three hits and four walks with one strikeout, and classmate Dylan Copp came in and threw the final five and a third innings, allowing no runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
5. Trio Of Wellsboro Jumpers Compete At States
Kyle Mosher and siblings Aiden and Annie Gehman all qualified for and competed at the PIAA Championships for the Hornets. Annie, a sophomore, won the District 4 triple jump title to earn her trip to Ship, while senior Aiden finished second in the long jump at Districts and senior Mosher was runner-up in the high jump, earning their spots at States.
4. Cowanesque Valley Softball Unseats NEB As Small-School Champs
The Lady Indians went 16-3 in the regular season and 12-2 in the league, including a late-season win over Northeast Bradford to seal the small-school title.
3. Wellsboro Tennis, Led By First-Time Player Peyton McClure, Win NTL With Perfect League Mark
McClure went 15-2 at No. 1 Singles for the Hornets as they cruised to a 6-0 league mark and a 15-3 overall record.
2. North Penn-Liberty Softball Has Historic Season
The Lady Mounties ran off a 19-0-1 regular season record, going 15-0 to win the NTL title, won a District 4 Class 3A Championship and won a State playoff game.
1. Williamson 4x800 Relay Team Wins State Championship
Nathaniel Welch, Owen Cummings, Kristian Mizdail and Duncan Kerr lowered their school-record, District Championship time at States, earning gold with a 7:59.73.
