WILLIAMSON'S BERKAN GETS FIRST START FOR ELMIRA PIOS (2023-07-23)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportELMIRA, NY — Williamson grad Erik Berkan got his first start and had his longest outing Thursday for the Elmira Pioneers in a 10-2 loss to Jamestown in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League play.
Berkan went five innings and allowed just three of Jamestown’s 10 runs on four hits and six walks with four strikeouts. The Pios were down 3-1 when Berkan was relieved but the future Elmira Soaring Eagle was tagged with the loss.
Berkan had made four previous appearances for Elmira before his start Thursday .. including throwing a hitless/scoreless inning in relief in Elmira’s 12-0 win over Newark on June 17th.
Elmira is 24-15 on the season. Their next game is on Wednesday the 26th at 6:35 p.m. at Dunn Field.
