NTL BOYS SOCCER: BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS HORNETS TO WIN OVER NP-LIBERTY (2023-09-21)

LIBERTY — Wellsboro scored four second-half goals to pull away from North Penn-Liberty, topping the Mounties 5-2 in an NTL match-up here Thursday.

Jacob Abadi opened the scoring with a goal nine minutes into the match off an assist from Jude Cuneo. The Mounties tied it up with a goal by Tate Strange at 25:56 off an assist by Zack Wilcox and the teams went into the break 1-1.

Caden Smith broke the tie 12 minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal and Micaiah Fitch extended the Hornets’ lead to 3-1 with a goal off an assist from Micah Vickery five minutes later.

Wilcox scored on a corner kick by Strange midway through the second half to cut the lead to one, before Fitch scored his second goal of the game .. assisted on by Smith .. then had the helper on a goal by Lucas Cuneo to provide the 5-2 final.

The Hornets held a 21-6 advantage in shots on goal and had six corner kicks to NPL’s three. Wellsboro keeper Mitchell Butler had five saves and Carter Grinnell stopped 13 shots for the Mounties. 

Wellsboro improves to 6-2 overall on the season and to 5-1 in the NTL with the win, while North Penn-Liberty is now 4-3 in the league and 7-4 overall. Both teams are scheduled to return to action on Monday .. Wellsboro at home with Northeast Bradford and NPL at Athens.
