NTL BOYS SOCCER: HORNETS CELEBRATE SENIOR NIGHT WITH ROUT OF NEB (2023-09-25)

WELLSBORO — The Hornets celebrated Senior Night here Monday by dominating the visiting Panthers for a 6-0 shutout win in NTL boys soccer action. 

Caden Smith scored three goals while Micaiah Fitch had two goals and two assists and Lucas Cuneo had a goal and two assists. The win is Wellsboro’s third straight and seventh in their last eight games. 

Fitch opened the scoring with a goal off an assist from Cuneo at the 17:36 mark of the first half and with 6:19 left until the break, Smith scored the first of his three goals on an assist from Fitch. 

Just 33 seconds later, Fitch and Cuneo hooked up again with Fitch scoring and then 1:33 later Fitch fed Smith for a goal and a 4-0 lead. Cuneo would finish off the Hornets’ first-half scoring with a goal on a penalty kick with just over three minutes remaining. Smith scored less than seven minutes into the second half to complete his hat trick.

Wellsboro held a 12-1 advantage in shots-on-goal and had seven corner kicks to NEB’s three. Hornet keeper Mitchell Butler had one save in goal.

The Hornets (7-2, 6-1 NTL) return to action Wednesday when they are scheduled to host Galeton.
