NTL BOYS SOCCER: WELLSBORO SHUTS OUT BLACK KNIGHTS (2023-09-28)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — In the nightcap of a boys/girls soccer doubleheader here Thursday, September 28th, the Hornets won their third straight game with a 6-0 shutout over Towanda.
Junior Micaiah Fitch scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season less than two minutes into the contest. Senior Caden Smith assisted on the goal, making it 1-0.
Smith then went on to score back-to-back goals to push the lead to 3-0 in favor of Wellsboro .. the first came 10 minutes after Fitch's opening goal on an assist from junior Jack Bryant and the second came just a minute later on an assist from junior Lucas Cuneo.
Wellsboro's final goal of the first half came from junior Owen Stevens with 2:49 remaining, giving the Hornets a commanding 4-0 halftime lead.
In the second half senior Jacob Abadi scored a pair of goals, both on headers. Just over a minute into the start of the second half Abadi converted a Fitch direct kick to make it 5-0 then with 10:04 remaining, Abadi converted a Cuneo corner kick to make it 6-0.
Wellsboro out shot the Black Knights 19-3 and had a dominant 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Mitchell Butler recorded his third straight shutout by making 3 saves.
Wellsboro improves to 9-2 (8-1 NTL) on the year and is back in action on Monday at Williamson, with hopes of avenging their only league loss this season.
