DISTRICT IV TRACK & FIELD: WELLSBORO QUARTET QUALIFIES FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 4X400 (2021-05-22)

WILLIAMSPORT —The Wellsboro boys 4x100 meter relay team led the Hornet contingent at the District IV Track & Field championships Saturday, placing second and earning a trip to the state meet.

The team of Joseph Grab, Jack Poirier, Samuel Rudy and Dillon Boyce ran the relay in 44.69, second only to Southern Columbia (42.51).

Grab had the highest other finish for the Hornets, placing fifth in the 200 meter run (23.16), and added a sixth-place finish in the 100 meter dash (11.39). 

Poirier finished seventh in the 200 (23.51) and Rudy was seventh in the 300 meter hurdles (43.81).

On the girls side, Emma Coolidge had the highest finish of the day, placing eighth in the javelin (104-00). Teammate Alina Pietrzyk (88-07) finished sixteenth.

The girls 4x100 meter relay team (56.36) finished sixteenth, and the 4x800 meter relay team (4:47.80) placed eighteenth. 

Wellsboro was represented in the throwing events by Wyatt Gastrock (111-03), who finished twelfth in discus, Justice Harlan (38-11), seventeenth in shot put, and on the girls’ side, by Kiyah Boyce (27-07.25), twenty-first in shot, and Grace Harlan (25-01.50), who was twenty-fourth.

The AA PIAA Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday, May 28 in Seth Grove Stadium at Shippensburg University. The boys 4x100 meter relay is scheduled to take place at 12:50 p.m.
