NTL SOFTBALL: WELLSBORO TRAVELS TO BLOOM FOR FIRST-ROUND OF DISTRICT IV AAA PLAYOFFS (2021-05-24)

The number five seeded Wellsboro softball team will open the District IV Class AA playoffs in Bloomsburg Tuesday, taking on the number four seed Panthers.

The Lady Hornets and Bloom don’t have any common opponents this season, as the Panthers finished 13-7 overall and 7-7 in their conference, the Heartland II.

Wellsboro boasts a consistent lineup, as six Hornets have 20 or more hits on the season. Kerrah Clymer batted .507 in the regular season, with 34 hits, seven home runs and 25 RBI, while Maddi Bordas was a .500 hitter with 10 doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI.

Jena Boyce collected 30 hits and batted .395, with 23 RBI and 25 runs scored, while Jordyn Abernathy (28), Emma Coolidge (23) and Chelsie English (20) all had 20 hits. English has five home runs on the season and has only been struck out three times, while Abernathy has scored 27 runs and Coolidge has 23.

Bloomsburg is led by Rita Nuss (.483, three HR, eight doubles, 24 RBI) and Rylee Klinger (.493, three HR, four doubles, four triples).

Pitcher Ellen Hull is 9-7 and has thrown 95 innings for the Panthers, with a 3.00 ERA, 112 strikeouts and 39 walks.

Wellsboro’s Kerrah Clymer has thrown 99 and a third innings, going 10-4 with a 4.23 ERA on 83 strikeouts and 44 walks.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bloomsburg High School. 

The winner will take on number one seed Loyalsock on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Moser Complex in Turbotville.
