ATHENS — The Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians volleyball team will take on top-seeded South Williamsport in Athens on Thursday in the Class A final of the District IV playoffs. 

The Lady Mounties earned the No. 1 seed as the only Class A team in the district with a .500 or better record at 10-10, while CV finished 9-12 and outdistanced 7-12 Canton for the No. 2 spot in the finals.

The two didn’t play each other this season but have common opponents in .. Sugar Valley Rural Charter, who both teams beat 3-0 .. Canton, who SW lost to twice (3-1 & 3-0) while CV went 1-1 against this season .. and Wellsboro, who beat SW twice and CV once.

The Indians open the playoffs having ended the regular season by losing three-of-four matches, which was preceded by CV’s longest winning streak of the season at three matches, while SW went 4-4 in their final eight and beat Midd-West 3-1 in their last match prior to the District final.

Cowanesque Valley is led by a trio of seniors in Maggie McClaren (2.0 kills/set, 33 aces), Madison Schoonover (61 kills) and Katie Adams (60 kills, 37 aces) and junior Maddison Hartman has added 3.9 assists/set for the Indians.

The Class A final will start at 5:00 p.m. at Athens High School on Thursday. Tickets must be purchased online, HERE.
