NTL FOOTBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY FALLS TO LANCERS IN 3A QUARTERFINALS (2023-11-02)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
LOYALSOCK — Cowanesque Valley gave up 49 unanswered points to the host Loyalsock Lancers and fell 49-20 in Friday’s District 4 Class AAA quarterfinal at Kenneth Robbins Stadium.

The Lancers scored touchdowns in all three facets during the first quarter and played the backups from the second quarter on while earning a spot in next weekend’s semifinals, back at home, against Warrior Run.

CV put together an outstanding turnaround season, earning the No. 7 seed with a 5-5 record after going winless a season ago.

The Indians dressed just 18 players Friday .. a majority of which are underclassmen ..    and scored 20 second-half points against Loyalsock’s subs.

Freshman Keagan Lane produced CV’s first points when he returned an interception 56 yards for a third quarter touchdown and junior Fletcher Good then caught a 20-yard touchdown from junior quarterback Graham Hess.

Freshman Dave Hess set up CV’s final touchdown with a 44-yard run and Carsyn Kemp scored a play later from three yards out. Graham Hess hit Levi Stahli for the two-point conversion to provide the 49-20 final.

Loyalsock scored on a 35 yard pass two minutes into the game and on a 14 yard pass with just over seven minutes left in the first frame. The Lancers then scored on a 78-yard punt return with 4:37 left, on a two-yard run with just over three minutes left, on a 60-yard pass with 1:16 left in the first and on a 35-yard interception return with 17 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

Less than a minute into the second quarter, Loyalsock got their final score of the night on a 48-yard run.

Dave Hess finished with 79 yards rushing on eight carries while Good added 46 yards on 11 carries and Lane had 23 yards on nine tries.

Graham Hess completed 4-of-12 passes .. all to Good .. for 81 yards and a score.

CV finishes the season 5-6. Look for a season recap on the Indians and all of our West squads soon.
