NTL GOLF: WELLSBORO FINISHES FOURTH IN '23, ZUCHOWSKI MAKES POST-SEASON RUN (2023-11-09)

WELLSBORO — The Hornets finished fourth in the NTL as a team this season, led by top-10 player Hayden Zuchowski and the Girls’ Player of the Year, Hannalee Cleveland.

Zuchowski’s 85.09 average during league matches was low for the Hornets and good for 7th place in the NTL. The senior shot an 83 on Day Two of Districts to move up into sixth place and qualify for the State Championships, where he shot his best round of the season on the first day, carding a 78 on Penn State’s White Course. A Day Two 83 left Zuchowski tied for 48th place overall in the State in AA.

Ziuchowski’s previous best round of the season came at Towanda Country Club where he won low honors for the week with a 79 to lead the Hornets to a 4th-place finish.

Wellsboro’s No. 2 golfer, Hannalee Cleveland, finished the season with a 93.44 average .. 14th best among all golfers and tops among the league’s girls. The senior had a low round of 86 at River Valley to help the Hornets place third .. their highest finish of the season .. then shot a 90 and a 93 at Districts to place 4th and miss a State Championship berth by just one place. 

Cleveland was recognized by the league coaches, including first-year Hornets’ skipper Ben Largey, as the Female Golfer of the Year, while Zuchoswki was named to the NTL All-Star Second Team. 

Rounding out the Hornets’ scorers on the season were: freshman Syler Pietrzyk (97.71 avg. 7 matches, low 89), senior Silas Jackson (105.14 avg. 7 matches, low 97), sophomore Marek Mascho (107.5 avg. 6 matches, low 91) and sophomore Kiernen Whitsell (118.4 avg. 5 matches, low 109).

Wellsboro finished the league season with a 17-25 record, behind champ Athens (42-0), Wyalusing (32-10) and North Penn-Mansfield (27-15) and ahead of Towanda (15-27), Cowanesque Valley (14-28) and Sayre (0-42).
