CV'S MIZDAIL, WELLSBORO'S KOSEK LEAD ALL-TIOGA COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS (2023-11-29)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — It was an exciting cross country season in the West, with boys’ All-Tioga County ‘Runner of the Year’ Kristian Mizdail finishing off a stellar high school career and a number of promising young runners making an immediate impact .. including girls’ ‘Runner of the Year’ and ‘Newcomer of the Year’, freshman Laruen Kosek from Wellsboro.
Mizdail leads the boys’ All-Tioga XC Team following his 12th-place medal at States (16:29), his bronze at Districts (15:56) and an NTL Coaches’ Invite title (17:23.51).
North Penn-Mansfield freshman James Knefly is the boys’ ’Newcomer of the Year’ after opening his varsity career with a 4th place finish at the NTL meet (17:52) and a 17th place finish at Districts (17:06) .. the 1st runner out of State qualification.
Joining Mizdail and Knefly on the boys All-Tioga County Boys XC Team is:
Wellsboro sophomore Max Macias was 12th at the Coaches Invite (18:35), 8th at Districts (17:54) to qualify for the State Championship, where he finished 114th (18:42).
CV senior Michael Lundy finished 23rd at the NTL meet (19:54) and 43rd at Districts (19:38).
Cowanesque Valley sophomore Hunter Simonds was 34th at the Coaches’ Invite (20:35) and 30th at Districts (18:21).
Wellsboro’s Kosek had a phenomenal varsity debut and leads the All-Tioga County Girls XC Team following her runner-up finish at the NTL meet (20:04.34), her 9th place finish at Districts (19:45) and her 40th place finish at the State Championship (20:29).
Another freshman, CV’s Clare McKee, joins Kosek on the All-Tioga County team after placing 9th at the NTL meet (21:56), 19th at Districts (21:00) and 129th at the State Championships (21:57) while competing as the sole member of the Lady Indians.
The North Penn-Mansfield girls’ squad made a strong post-season push and placed 2nd at Districts to qualify for the State Team Championships.
Joining Kosek and McKee on the All-Tioga County Girls XC Team from NPM are: Freshman Jaci Fairchild, who finished 6th at the NTL meet (21:14); 5th at Districts (20:42) and 64th at States (21:53).
Junior Madelynn Johns placed 10th at the NTL Coaches' Invitational (21:58), 8th at the District 4 meet (21:40) and 100th at States (22:42).
Senior Addison Farrer was 12th at NTL's (22:23), 11th at Districts (21:58) and 132nd at States (23:10).
Senior Madalyn Farrer finished 20th at the Coaches' Invite (23:08), 17th at Districts (22:30) and 143rd at States (23:25).
