NTL BASEBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY FALLS ON WALK-OFF IN DISTRICT FINAL (2021-05-31)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Cowanesque Valley came within a strike of winning a District IV championship Monday, but the Indians fell victim to a walk-off in extra innings and dropped the Class A finals game to St. John Neumann, 4-3.

CV had trouble stringing anything together at the plate and were held scoreless through five innings, but McGwire Painter kept the Indians in the game by throwing a solid five and a third innings. Painter surrendered just three hits and had 10 strikeouts.

The Indians got on the board first after loading the bases in the sixth inning, on a pair of walks and a hit batter, leading to a Painter RBI single.

Neumann got the run back in their half of the sixth, and after a scoreless seventh, CV had first at-bat to start extra innings.

After Tucker St. Peter doubled himself into scoring position, Mikey Sipps drove St. Peter home with a double of his own. Sipps later scored on a passed ball, giving the Indians a 3-1 lead heading into Neumann’s last chance.

After surrendering a one-out walk and a single, CV recorded the second out, then gave up another walk to load the bases. Neumann’s Nazir Smith stroked a double to score two and tie the game at three, and Jerval Weeks-Schuler delivered the walk-off hit to end the game.

St. Peter had two hits, with a double, and relieved Painter in the sixth and was tagged with the loss.

Sipps had an RBI double and Painter had an RBI single.

Neumann will now move onto State tournament play, while CV ends their season with an 8-13 record.
