NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: LADY HORNETS TOP CANTON FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN (2024-01-17)
Northern Tier WEST Sports Report WELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets’ Chloe Brandenburg and Canton’s Kendall Kitchen each led their teams with 16 points, but it would be Brandenburg’s teammates outscoring Kitchen’s squad to lift Wellsboro to a 35-28 win here Wednesday.
The Hornets spread the scoring around to start the game as Brandenburg, Maddy Mascho, Emily Morris and Paige Logsdon each scored a pair of points to give Wellsboro an 8-2 lead after one quarter of play.
A 10-7 Wellsboro second quarter gave the Lady Hornets an 18-9 lead at the break.
Brandenburg would hit for nine points in Wellsboro’s 11-9 third and hit her third 3-pointer of the game in the fourth to help seal the win.
Mascho and Morris each finished with six points while Logsdon had five and Hannah Gilmour chipped in with two points.
The win is Wellsboro’s second straight after five losses and the Hornets are now 5-7 overall, 3-6 in the NTL and 0-4 in the large-school division. They’re scheduled to visit Westfield to take on Cowanesque Valley on Friday.
