NTL SOFTBALL: THIRTEEN WEST PLAYERS NAMED TO NTL COACHES ALL-STAR TEAM (2021-06-16)

TIOGA COUNTY, PA  â€” Cowanesque Valley and Wellsboro each had four players named to the NTL softball coaches All-Star teams recently, while Williamson had a pair of players selected and North Penn-Liberty had three players honored, including Rookie of the Year Megan Spohn.

Spohn, a freshman, batted .400 for the Lady Mounties and had a .438 on-base percentage with18 hits, including nine doubles and a home run. She also had 17 runs scored and 15 RBI.

Wellsboro’s Kerrah Clymer and Chelsie English were named to the first team.

Clymer collected 34 hits on the season, including seven home runs, six doubles and three triples. The senior batted .486 for the Hornets, with a .575 on-base percentage, and had 25 RBI and scored 32 runs. She was also 10-5 for Wellsboro in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 99 innings with a 4.23 ERA and 83 strikeouts.

English, the Lady Hornets’ catcher, batted .309 on the season, with 21 hits, including five home runs and six doubles. The senior had 29 RBI and scored 18 runs.

CV’s Makayla Vargeson and Abby Ackley were named to the first team by the NTL coaches as well.

Vargeson led the Lady Indians at the plate this season, collecting 25 hits, including five home runs, six doubles and two triples. The senior had 30 RBI and scored 23 runs while batting .342 for the 12-9 Indians. In 79 plate appearances, Vargeson struck out only three times.

Ackley batted .324 for CV with a .418 OBP and 22 hits on the season, including five doubles and four triples. The senior catcher had 16 RBI and scored 27 runs.

Williamson’s Kenna Buchanan was named to the first team after her debut season for the Warriors saw her collect 25 hits and bat .472 with a .533 on-base percentage.

Wellsboro, CV and NPL each had two players selected to the second team, while Williamson placed one player on the team.

Jena Boyce batted .397 for the Hornets, with 31 hits and a .435 OBP. The senior shortstop had two doubles, two triples and a home run, as well as collecting 23 RBI, 25 runs and struck out only twice in 78 plate appearances.

Abernathy hit .359 for Wellsboro with a .432 on-base percentage on 28 hits, including seven doubles, two triples and a home run. The sophomore scored 28 runs and had eight RBI from the leadoff spot.

NPL’s Saige Lehman and Alexia Kshir were both named to the second team. 

Lehman batted .415 for the Mounties, with a .489 on-base percentage on 17 hits, including five doubles. The freshman catcher scored 13 runs and had four RBI in only 47 plate appearances.

Kshir, a sophomore, batted .365 with 19 hits, 14 RBI and seven runs scored. She had six doubles, four triples and reached base at a .450 clip.

Cowanesque Valley had Katie Adams and Megan Hyde named to the second team.

Adams batted .475 for the Lady Indians, with a .523 OBP on 28 hits. The freshman scored 26 runs on the season and had seven RBI.

Hyde had 24 hits for CV this season, including six doubles and two HR’s. The junior batted .400 and had a .478 on-base percentage, with 14 runs scored and 13 RBI.

Williamson’s Madisen Cody was named to the second team, as the senior batted .472 for the Warriors on 17 hits.
