NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: WILLIAMSON ESCAPES WELLSBORO WITH CLOSE WIN (2024-02-02)

WELLSBORO — Williamson was held nearly 20 points below their season average by Wellsboro here Friday but would win the defensive battle and edge the Lady Hornets 28-25.

Wellsboro took a 9-5 lead after the first quarter as Chloe Brandenburg hit a pair of early 3-pointers for the Hornets while Madisen Jones had a three for the Lady Warriors. Williamson shut Wellsboro down in the second quarter and took a slight, 11-9 lead into the break.

Olivia Meisner scored six third quarter points while Brandenburg hit for four as the teams played to an 8-8 draw and Williamson led 19-17 going into the final frame.

Brandenburg hit her fourth and fifth threes of the game but the Warriors were able to put nine points on the board and eke out the three point win, 28-25.

Meisner led Williamson with eight points while Kenna Thomas had seven, Madisen Jones added six points, Maeve Ficks had four and Taylor Rae Jones scored three points. 

For Wellsboro, Brandenburg finished with a game-high 16 points while Paige Logsdon had five and Emily Morris added four points.

Williamson improves to 15-3 overall on the season with the win and to 6-2 in the NTL-I. They’re scheduled to host Galeton, who the Warriors beat 51-6 earlier this season, on Monday.

Wellsboro, now 8-10 overall and 2-6 in the large school, is scheduled to visit Cowanesque Valley on Monday.
