NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: DOMINICK & SHAW COMBINE FOR 50 TO LEAD TIGERS TO WIN OVER ATHENS (2024-02-08)

ATHENS — Karson Dominick and Cooper Shaw combined to score 50 points for North Penn-Mansfield as the Tigers topped NTL large school-foe Athens 65-46 in boys basketball action here Thursday night.

Dominick, who finished with 29 points, scored 11 first quarter points and Shaw, who had 21 in the game, added 10 points as Mansfield took a 23-11 lead after a quarter of play. 

The host Wildcats held an 11-7 lead in the opening frame .. with Dominick accounting for all seven of Mansfield’s points .. when Shaw hit a three with 4:54 on the clock, starting a 16-0 run by the Tigers to end the quarter.

The run featured another 3-pointer, a baseline runner and a finish at the rim by Shaw, a midrange jumper by Talon D’Angelo and two more buckets by Dominick. 

A 10-7 Athens’ second quarter saw Shaw score twice .. with his third three .. and Alex Davis’ first score in his return to action following a shoulder injury. He’d finish with nine points in the game. D’Angelo, Patrick Youmans and Brady Stetter rounded out Mansfield’s scoring with two points each.

Up 30-21 after being held scoreless in the second quarter, Dominick went off in the third for 10 points and Shaw added his fourth three to help the Tigers to a 17-12 advantage and a 47-33 lead going into the final frame. 

Four free throws by Dominick, three by Davis and one by Shaw highlighted the Tigers’ 18-13 fourth quarter.

Mansfield shot 8-for-14 from the free throw line in the game .. 8-for-12 in the fourth quarter .. while Athens made 11-of-14.

The Tigers (15-6 overall, 11-4 NTL, 6-4 large school) have one regular season game remaining .. Tuesday at Cowanesque Valley .. followed by the NTL Showdown and post season play.
