NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES WIN FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME OVER TOWANDA (2024-02-12)

TOWANDA — North Penn-Liberty built a 15-point halftime lead at Towanda Monday night and held the Black Knights off for a 64-56 win in the Mounties regular season finale. 

Louis Mercantino hit for 20 points in the win, with eight points in each of the third and fourth quarters. Adynn Wheeland added 13 points, four steals and three assists while Carter Grinnell had nine points, Blake Oakley had eight points, six rebounds, five assists, three blocked shots and three steals, Evan McTish had six points, Luke Kreger had five points and Daniel Harman had three points and four rebounds.

The Mounties took a 16-12 lead after the first quarter of play behind five points from Grinnell, four from both Oakley and Mercantino and a 3-pointer from Wheeland. A 19-8 second quarter for Liberty saw eight points by Mercantino and five from Wheeland to give the Mounties a 35-20 lead at the break.

McTish scored all six of his points in the third quarter and Kreger added four of his five points to help the Mounties to a 19-5 quarter and a 54-35 lead as they went to the fourth. Towanda rallied for a 21-point quarter but Mercantino scored eight to limit the damage and seal the win.

The Mounties finish the regular season 11-10 overall with a 8-8 mark in the NTL and a 5-5 record in the small school division. They’ll be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming District 4 Class A playoffs.
