HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS HORNETS TO NON-LEAGUE WIN AT BENTON (2024-02-12)

BENTON, Pa — Wellsboro outscored Benton 33-8 in the second half to earn a 50-26 win over the host Tigers in non-league boys basketball action here Monday.

Hayes Campbell led Wellsboro with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds and added three assists while Luke Rothermel had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

With a 13-12 lead after the first quarter, the Hornets were held to four points in the second and were down one to Benton at the halftime break, 18-17. 

Hayes and Rothermel each had six points in the third and the Hornets held Benton to three points as Wellsboro opened up a double-digit lead going into the fourth, 31-21. The pair each scored five points in Wellsboro’s 19-5 fourth quarter to seal the win for the Hornets.

Marek Mascho added six points for Wellsboro and had six rebounds while Caden Smith had five points and six assists, Isaac Macias had four points and Lucas Cuneo and Mitchel Lechler each had two points. 

The Hornets have one regular season game remaining .. Friday at South Williamsport .. stand at 13-8 overall on the season and are currently 6th in the District 4 Class 3A standings.
