SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa — Wellsboro took to the road for their final regular season game Friday and came home with a 56-51 non-league win over South Williamsport .. the Hornets second win over the Mounties this year. 

The Hornets entered the fourth quarter down six .. 45-39 .. and used five points each from Mitch Lechler and Caden Smith and four from Luke Rothermel to rally past the Mounties with a 17-6 final frame. 

Wellsboro had four players score in double figures, led by Lechler’s 15 points. Rothermel had 12 points while Smith and Hayes Campbell each had 11 points and Campbell added 10 rebounds for a double-double while Smith had five assists. Marek Mascho had six points and Ian Hoose rounded out the scoring with one point.

South Williamsport took a 15-5 lead after the first quarter before Wellsboro exploded for a 26-point second quarter and cut the lead to one at the break .. 32-31.

Smith and Lechler each hit a pair of threes in the big second quarter while Campbell scored seven points in the frame and Mascho had five.

The host Mounties opened their lead up with a 13-8 third quarter, setting up Wellsboro’s fourth quarter rally.

The Hornets finish the regular season 14-8 and as the No. 6 seed in the upcoming District 4 Class 3A playoffs. They’ll travel to take on No. 3 seed Southern Columbia next week.
