NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: TIGERS TOPPED BY TROJANS IN SHOWDOWN CHAMPIONSHIP (2024-02-17)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
SAYRE — The undefeated Trojans jumped out to an early, double-digit lead and never looked back, downing North Penn-Mansfield 56-38 in the boys’ NTL Showdown finals here Saturday.

Karson Dominick led Mansfield with 22 points while Tate Strange added six points and Alex Davis, Brady Stetter, Cooper Shaw, Cade Kurzejewski and Jason Harer had two points each.

Troy led 17-6 before the first quarter ended and finished the frame up 20-10 on the Tigers as Dominick scored six early points.

The Trojans would extend their lead to 26-11 early in the second quarter with a 6-1 run before NPM followed with a 7-2 run of their own to get the deficit back to 10 points. Troy would go into the locker room up 33-22.

Dominick would hit a lay-up to cut the deficit to nine points for the Tigers early in the third, but back-to-back buckets put Troy up 37-24.

A Dominick bucket would cut it to 10-points again, but an 8-0 Troy run followed, putting them up 46-28.

Harer would get a put-back late to make it a 16-point game with one quarter left to play.

NPM never seriously threatened in the fourth as Troy extended their lead to 20 points midway through the quarter.

Mansfield, now 16-7 overall on the season, will host a first-round, District 4 Class 3A game as the No. 4 seed. They’ll face 14-8 Warrior Run.
