DISTRICT 4 BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES TO OPEN CLASS A PLAYOFFS AT HOME AGAINST SULLIVAN COUNTY (2024-02-19)

LIBERTY — North Penn-Liberty earned the No. 2 seed in the District 4 Class A playoffs and will open the post-season on Tuesday when the Mounties host No. 7 seed Sullivan County.

Sullivan County finished the regular season 9-13 and lost their final two contests. The teams have several common opponents on the season .. as Liberty beat Canton twice and Sullivan County lost to the Warriors ..  the Mounties beat Wyalusing during the season and Sullivan County lost to the Rams in their final regular season game, 42-40 .. both beat Towanda .. and both lost to Muncy.

The Mounties are led in scoring by junior Louis Mercantino, who averages 13 points per game and has made 51 threes on the year, while classmate Ayden Wheeland adds 8.6 points per game and has hit 24 3-pointers and junior Blake Oakley scores 7.9 points per game. Sophomore Luke Kreger averages 7.6 points per game off the bench for Liberty and has averaged 10 points per game in the second half of the season. 

With a win the Mounties would advance to the Class A semifinals and face the winner between No. 3 seed Cowanesque Valley and No. 7 seed Galeton. Liberty beat Galeton 51-37 earlier this season and fell to Cowanesque Valley twice.

Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
