CATAWISSA, Pa — Wellsboro will travel to take on Southern Columbia on Thursday in the first round of the District 4 Class 3A boys basketball playoffs. 

The 14-8 Hornets earned the No. 6 seed while 16-6 Southern Columbia is the No. 3. 

The two have a pair of common opponents on the season as both lost to Montoursville .. Wellsboro by a 64-46 score and the Tigers 60-49 .. and each also lost to Loyalsock .. Wellsboro 63-35 and Southern Columbia, 76-71 and 79-58.

The Tigers average 60 points per game and allow 54 to their opponents while the Hornets score 50 points per outing and give up an average of 45.

Senior Hayes Cambell leads Wellsboro with 16 points and 8 rebounds per game while senior Caden Smith and sophomore Luke Rothermel each score over 8 points per game. Smith has hit 27 3-pointers on the year and hands out 5 assists per game while Rothermel grabs 5 rebounds per outing. Senior Ian Hoose adds 6 points per game and sophomore Mitchel Lechler has made 13 threes and averages 5.5 points.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off Thursday at Southern Columbia High School. With a win, the Hornets would advance to the semifinals to face the winner between No. 2 seed Troy and 7th-seeded Mount Carmel.
