COLLEGE SOFTBALL: CV'S MILLARD COMMITS TO D2 LOCK HAVEN (2024-03-06)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WESTFIELD, Pa — Cowanesque Valley senior student athlete Maddie Millard recently signed her letter of commitment to attend Lock Haven University and be a member of the Bald Eagles’ Division 2 softball team.

A standout for the CV Lady Indians as well as the Wellsville Dawgs travel team, Millard chose Lock Haven to continue her playing career with academics in mind.

“For me, it came down to my major”, says Millard, “Only a few schools provide a pre-physician assistant program and a grad school program within the same school.”

Lock Haven finished 24-24 a season ago, including a 14-18 mark in the PSAC East, and are 2-6 on the young 2024 campaign. Head Coach Kelly Shannon is in her 14th year at the helm and has over 300 career wins with the Bald Eagles.

Millard’s versatility was a key factor in her recruitment.

“Coach Shannon and Coach (Danielle) Fraser have a plan for my freshman year to be a switch hitter along with a pinch runner when needed,” Millard explains. “My ability to go up to bat in either box and perform things like bunts and slaps and beat it out to the base is what grabbed the coaches’ attention.”

Millard is thankful for her supporters and coaches that have led her to playing for a D2 softball program of Lock Haven’s stature.

“I would like to thank my friends and family for supporting me throughout my many years of playing softball,” Millard says, “also my travel coach Matt Burke and high school coaches Kip Adams and Mike Vargeson for helping me improve throughout the years.”
