COLLEGE BASEBALL: WELLSBORO'S CALLAHAN HELPING SLIPPERY ROCK TO STRONG START (2024-03-13)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa — Former Hornet baseball star Darryn Callahan is off to a hot start to his sophomore year, helping Slippery Rock to a 6-2 start to their season.

Callahan is batting .273 for The Rock and has come up clutch in a pair of early season wins.

In Slippery Rock’s second game of the season against Dominican (NY), Callahan got the start at first base and delivered a pair of hits, including a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning that gave The Rock a 7-6 win.

Against Pace, Callahan connected on his first collegiate home run to tie the game at 2-all in the seventh inning, then led off the 12th inning by reaching on an error and being knocked in to score the eventual game-winner as Slippery Rock moved to 4-0 on the season.

Callahan and The Rock have a three-game series with Saint Anselm scheduled for March 16th-17th, followed by their first PSAC action of the season on March 22nd-23rd when they play a pair of home-and-away double-headers with Pitt-Johnstown.
