COLLEGE SOFTBALL: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY'S MACKENZI TICE TO PLAY AT PENN COLLEGE (2024-03-18)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
LIBERTY — Two-time defending All-Tioga County Softball Player of the Year Mackenzi Tice from North Penn-Liberty recently announced her decision to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology and to play softball for the Wildcats and Head Coach Angie Stackhouse.

Tice went 19-1 in the circle for the Lady Mounties last season as a junior, throwing 136 innings with a 1.24 ERA and 195 strikeouts. At the plate, Tice hit .484 with a .505 on-base-percentage and had 46 base hits (13 doubles, 1 HR), 33 runs scored and 21 RBI.

As a sophomore, Tice led the Mounties to a 14-5 record, a season after winning just five games. Tice was integral in NPL’s turnaround, from both the pitcher’s circle and at the plate. The sophomore hit .453 and had an on-base-percentage of .518, racking up 34 hits on the season, including four doubles and a triple. She added 31 runs scored and 13 RBI, and was the Lady Mounties’ ace, throwing 80 2/3 innings while compiling a 7-3 record with a 2.00 ERA and 102 strikeouts.

Of her decision to become a Wildcat, Tice says, “I chose Penn because of their great technology in their nursing program and also because I can play all four years with coach Angie Stackhouse, who I used to train with before high school.”

“I would like to thank all my coaches over the years and my parents for all the time and money they have put in over many, many years off training and playing,” said Tice, “They’re a huge reason my dreams are becoming reality to play at the collegiate level. A huge thank you to my coaches I’ve had from the beginning as well .. thank you for pushing me to be the best I could be and not giving up on my dream to play at this level.”

The Wildcats finished 31-10 in 2023 and won the United East regular season with a 20-4 conference record. Penn College fell in the UE semifinals before winning the ECAC Championship. This season, PCT is 8-4.
