'23-'24 ALL-TIOGA COUNTY BOYS BASKETBALL (2024-03-21)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — NTWSR presents the All-Tioga County Boys Basketball Teams and award winners, led by Player of the Year, North Penn-Mansfield’s Karson Dominick.

While NP-Mansfield struggled to match expectations for the season after their NTL title in 2022-2023, the one constant for the Tigers was our All-Tioga County Offensive Player and overall Player of the Year, Karson Dominick. The All-State senior scored 617 points this season (24.7/g) and hit for 20-plus in 21 of the Tigers’ 25 games, had over 30 four times and scored a career-high 41 in a mid-season win over Wyalusing.  The Lock Haven commit added a team-high 7 rebounds per game, 3 assists per outing, 40 steals and 10 blocked shots.

This is Dominick’s second All-Tioga County Player of the Year award after winning it last season as a junior and he was the Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in ’21-’22.

Wellsboro Head Coach Ron Doughtie says that our All-Tioga County Defensive Player of the Year, senior Hayes Campbell was, “the quarterback to our defense .. calling out everything for his teammates and being the vocal leader in the huddle and the locker room.”

Campbell played well-above his 6’3” height and averaged 16.3 points and 8 rebounds per game for the Hornets, hitting double-digits in all but three games and going over 20 points six times. He also had seven double-doubles on the year, with 39 steals and six blocked shots and grabbing the 500th board of his career.

Wellsboro’s Doughtie is the All-Tioga County Boys Basketball Coach of the Year after leading the Hornets to a 14-9 record and a pair of wins over Mansfield .. one to win the Peg Berguson Memorial Trophy .. in his first season as head coach.

North Penn-Liberty sophomore Luke Kreger is both the All-Tioga County Sixth Man of the Year award winner and the Newcomer of the Year after coming off the bench for Coach Bear Mattison and the 12-12 Mounties and averaging 8.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

Joining Dominick and Campbell on the first team are Williamson’s Kristian Mizdail, Cowanesque Valley’s Jordan Vargeson, North Penn-Liberty’s Louis Mercantino, Campbell’s point guard Caden Smith and Dominick’s Mansfield teammate Cooper Shaw.
