ALL-TIOGA COUNTY 'FAB 5' BOY NEWCOMERS OF THE SEASON (2024-03-22)

TIOGA COUNTY — There were some fine performances put forth by a number of young athletes in their first varsity action this past season, recognized here with our ‘Fab 5’ boy ’Newcomers of the Season’. 

North Penn-Liberty freshman wrestler Bryce Pequignot is the ’Newcomer of the Season’ after going 33-8 in his freshman season with a Sectional title at 107 pounds, a 3rd-place finish at Districts, a runner-up finish at Regionals and an appearance at the PIAA Class 2A Championships.

North Penn-Liberty sophomore Luke Kreger was both the All-Tioga County Sixth Man of the Year award winner and the Newcomer of the Year after coming off the bench for the 12-12 Mounties and averaging 8.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

Luke Rothermel, Wellsboro, sophomore .. 8.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2 apg, 17 steals as a starter for the Hornets, scored career-high 16 points in a Wellsboro win over Jersey Shore.

Jason Harer, NP-Mansfield, sophomore .. worked his way into the starting lineup and had back-to-back 13-point games and a career-high 14 in a Tiger win over Wyalusing .. averaged 4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game with 14 blocked shots, 14 assists and 11 steals on the season.

Mitchel Lechler, Wellsboro, sophomore .. starter had 12 points in Hornets’ Peg Berguson Memorial Trophy game win over Mansfield and a career-high 15 in a Wellsboro win over South Williamsport .. averaged 5.2 points per game with 39 assists and 15 steals.
