NTL BASEBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY DROPS SEASON OPENER AT NEB (2024-03-25)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
ROME, Pa — The Cowanesque Valley baseball team took a 5-2 lead in the 5th inning of their season opener against Northeast Bradford Monday, but a pair of late-inning rallies lifted the Panthers to a home win over the Indians, 11-5.

The Indians took an early lead when Nick West and Ayren Morgan scored off a Jordan Vargeson base hit in the top of the first inning to go up 2-0.

After NEB answered with a run in the bottom half of the first and a scoreless second, CV scored two more runs as Vargeson and Larsen Swimley each singled and scored in the third inning for a 4-1 lead.

The Panthers got another run back in the bottom fourth and CV answered in the top of the fifth as Loagan Stickler reached on an error and later scored for a 5-2 Indian lead.

NEB rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to secure the 11-5 comeback win.

CV had five hits in the game, one each by West, Swimley, Vargeson, Kaden Cole and Carter Ackley. West, Swimley, Morgan, Vargeson and Stickler scored runs while Vargeson had a pair of RBI.

Stickler started on the mound for CV and went five innings to take the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits, two walks and two hit batters with nine strikeouts.

The Indians (0-1) are scheduled to return to action Tuesday for their home opener against Canton.
