HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: CV EARNS FIRST WIN IN HOME OPENER OVER NORTHERN POTTER (2024-03-27)

WESTFIELD, PA — Cowanesque Valley used a 7-run third inning to pull away from Northern Potter and earn a 12-2 non-league win in the Indians’ home opener here Wednesday.

CV scored two runs in the second inning before sending 13 batters to plate in the third and scoring seven runs to go up 9-0.

Northern Potter scored a run in the top of the 4th and CV answered with two more in the bottom half for an 11-1 lead. The Panthers delayed the mercy rule with a run in the 5th inning but the Indians got Lowell Baker across in the bottom of the 5th to end the game, 12-2.

Carter Ackley led the way at the plate for CV with a triple, an RBI and a run scored while Ayren Morgan and Lucas Hamilton each had a double. Levi Stahli and Kaden Cole each had a base hit, an RBI and two runs scored, while Hunter Simonds had a hit, an RBI and scored once and Tate Button had a single and an RBI. 

Nick West, Coen Kemp, Adam Maynor, Loagan Stickler and William Kiss each scored a run for CV.

Morgan started and threw one inning, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts, while Dave Hess threw the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings and allowed a run and struck out five. Hamilton closed the game, throwing the final inning and giving up a run on a hit and a walk.

CV (1-2) is scheduled to return to play on Tuesday when they host Williamson.
