NTL BASEBALL: TIGERS FALL TO TOWANDA FOR FIRST LOSS (2024-03-28)

MANSFIELD, PA — North Penn-Mansfield fell behind the visiting Black Knights early and were unable to catch up as Towanda downed the Tigers 11-5 in an NTL match-up here Thursday.

Towanda had 10 base hits in the game and Mansfield nearly matched the Knights with nine, but a half dozen NPM errors would help Towanda pull away from the Tigers. 

Towanda scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on two more in the second to take the early 5-0 lead as they went to the bottom of the second. 

There, the Tigers got two runs back as Karson Dominick reached base on an error and both Cody Hermansen and Riley Oakes were hit by pitches to load the bases. Dominick stole home for the Tigers’ first run and Alex Davis scored Hermansen with a double to cut the Towanda lead to 5-2. 

After a scoreless third, Towanda scored a run in the top of the 4th inning before Mansfield answered with a run in the bottom half when Oakes singled and scored on Davis’ second double of the game to keep the Towanda lead at three runs, 6-3. 

A scoreless 5th inning led to Towanda plating another run in the 6th and opening their lead up to 11-3 with a four-run 7th inning. The Tigers added a pair of runs in their last chance as Brady Bower and Andy Hermansen both scored to provide the 11-5 final.

Davis finished with three base hits, with two doubles and two RBI while Cooper Shaw and Cade Kurzejewski each had a hit and an RBI. Dominick, Cody hermansen and Oakes each had a hit and scored a run while Liam Schaut had a base hit, Easton Pequignot had an RBI and Andy Hermansen scored once. 

Dominick would get tagged with the loss, going an inning and two-thirds and allowing five runs .. two earned .. on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Davis threw four and a third innings and gave up two runs .. one earned .. on a hit and a walk with four K’s and Andy Hermansen finished the game and threw one inning, allowing four unearned runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. 

After winning their season opener over Wellsboro on Tuesday, the Tigers even their record at 1-1 with the loss. They’re scheduled to play at Wyalusing on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
