WYALUSING — North Penn-Mansfield built a steady lead on defending District 4 2A champion Wyalusing and earned a 9-3 win in an NTL Large School match-up here Saturday afternoon.

Cody Hermansen led the Tigers at the plate, driving in three runs with a pair of doubles and a home run and scoring three times. 

Alex Davis added three hits and two doubles, including one to lead off the game. Cade Kurzejewski singled Davis home and the Tigers took a 1-0 lead. 

Wyalusing answered with a run in the bottom first and Mansfield retook the lead in the second inning when Hermansen doubled and would score on a Jason Harer ground out. The Tigers went up 4-1 in the 3rd inning as Cade Kurzejewski was hit by a pitch, followed by back-to-back doubles by Hermansen and Riley Oakes. 

The Tigers added a run in the 5th inning when Karson Dominick doubled and pinch-runner Collin Oakes eventually scored on a Ram error off the bat of Riley Oakes, followed by a big 6th inning where Mansfield tacked on their final four runs and a 9-1 lead.

Davis doubled to lead off the 6th and Andy Hermansen drove him in with a single and Kurzejewski reached base on a fielder’s choice. Dominick drove Kurzejewski in and reached on an error and Hermansen connected on a two-run bomb to complete Mansfield’s scoring.

The Rams added a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th to provide the 9-3 final.

Cooper Shaw earned the win for North Penn-Mansfield, going five and a third innings and allowing three runs (1 earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Davis threw the final inning and two-thirds and gave up one hit and struck out two.

The Tigers (2-1) are scheduled to return to action Tuesday at home against Troy.
