NTL SOFTBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY SWEEPS DOUBLE-HEADER WITH WILLIAMSON (2024-04-01)

WESTFIELD, PA — Cowanesque Valley continued their dominant start to the young season here Monday, sweeping a double-header with Williamson, 6-1 and 17-1, to move to 4-0.

The Lady Indians recorded wins over Canton and Northern Potter before their sweep of Williamson and have now outscored their opponents 54-4 this season. 

In their 6-1, Game 1 win on Monday, CV’s Ruby Sherman and Laynie LaBarron combined to strike out 18 Lady Warriors. Sherman started and earned the win, going four innings and allowing no runs on a pair of singles and a walk with 12 K’s. LaBarron went the final three innings and gave up one unearned run on a hit and three walks with six strikeouts. 

Sherman led the Lady Indians at the plate as well, collecting a pair of base hits with a triple and three RBI. Ashley Woodring, Ella Churchill and Katie Adams each had a base hit while Keyana Thomas scored twice and Maddie Millard, Tabitha Piper and Madison Cary each scored once. 

For Williamson, Kenna Thomas, Mikenna Buchanan and Lexi Smalley each had a base hit while Thomas was tagged with the loss after pitching all six innings and allowing six runs (3 earned) on five hits and four walks with six strikeouts. 

In the nightcap, CV pounded out 10 base hits, Williamson committed eight errors and Sherman and LaBarron shut the Lady Warriors down again to get the three-inning, 17-1 win. 

Sherman threw the first two innings and allowed a hit and had a walk and four strikeouts while LaBarron pitched the final inning, giving up one unearned run on two hits and two walks with one K.

Sherman stayed hot at the plate and had a pair of hits with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. Zeraya Wilson had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Maddie Millard had a double, three RBI and scored twice for CV. 

Logan Hamilton had a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Woodring, Thomas, McKenna Cary and N Grab each had a base hit. Thomas added two RBI and a run scored, Cary had an RBI and scored twice, Grab had an RBI, Woodring had two runs scored and Katie Adams had an RBI and scored twice. 

Williamson’s Olivia Gee took the loss for the Lady Warriors, pitching one inning and allowing nine runs (2 earned) on four hits and two walks. Savanna Dean relieved Gee but failed to record an out while giving up seven runs (4 earned) on five hits and two walks and Buchanan finished the game, throwing two innings and allowing one unearned run on a hit and two walks with one strikeout. 

Buchanan had two of Williamson’s three hits and had an RBI while Thomas had the Warriors’ other hit. 

Cowanesque Valley (4-0) is scheduled to return to action on Friday by hosting Sayre (1-1), while Williamson (1-3) is scheduled to visit Canton, also on Friday.
