NTL BASEBALL: CV SWEEPS TWIN BILL WITH WILLIAMSON (2024-04-01)

WESTFIELD, PA — The CV baseball team hosted a double-header with Williamson Monday, sweeping the Warriors for a pair of NTL Small School wins. 

The Indians built a steady lead in the first game and won 10-4 before using a 4-run 7th inning in Game 2 to earn an 8-4 win and the sweep. 

In Game 1, Williamson went up early with a 2-run first inning before CV rallied for five runs in the second inning and two runs in the fourth for a 7-2 lead. The Warriors got a run back in the fifth inning and CV tacked on their final three runs in the sixth before Williamson added their final run in the seventh.

Loagan Stickler led the Indians at the plate in the first game, stroking a home run and a double with two RBI and three runs scored. Larsen Swimley added a pair of base hits .. with a double .. and had two RBI and scored once. 

Coen Kemp had a double, a run batted in and scored a run, while Nick West and Levi Stahli each had a hit and scored, Ayren Morgan had a base hit and Carter Ackley scored a run. 

Williamson had nine base hits to CV’s eight, led by Danny Smith’s pair of doubles and a single. Jack Nolan had two hits and three RBI, Christian Ling had two hits, an RBI and a run scored and Seth Zimmerman and Westin Copp each had a base hit in the loss. 

Stahli earned the win for Cowanesque Valley, going four innings and allowing two earned runs on five base hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Jordan Vargeson closed out Game 1, throwing the final three innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits and two walks with five K’s.

Sawyer Carleton was tagged with the loss for Williamson, allowing six earned runs in four innings of work on seven base hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Smith threw the last two innings and gave up three earned runs on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. 

In the nightcap, CV and Williamson entered the 7th inning tied at four. The Indians used back-to-back doubles by Morgan and Swimley to lead off the inning to score four runs and hold on for the 8-4 win.

West had three base hits in Game 2 and added an RBI and two runs scored, while Morgan had a pair of hits and an RBI, Swimley finished with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Stickler had a double and scored.

Vargeson, Stahli and Kemp had base hits, Dave hess had an RBI and Vargeson, Carter Ackley and Stahli scored runs.

Stickler started on the mound for CV and went three and a third innings while giving up two earned runs on three hits and four walks with nine strikeouts. Hess earned the win, throwing the final three and two-third innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with eight K’s. 

Nolan, Ling and Copp each had two of Williamson’s eight base hits in the loss with Carleton and L Carlin each adding a hit. Carleton and Copp each had an RBI and Ling, Carleton, Smith and A Watson all scored a run. 

Zimmerman suffered the loss on the mound for the Warriors, allowing eight runs (4 earned) on 10 hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six and a third innings. Smith came in and recorded the last two outs for Williamson. 

Cowanesque Valley (3-2) is scheduled to return to play on Wednesday when they host Oswayo Valley, while Williamson (1-5) is next scheduled to visit Canton on Friday.
