NTL BASEBALL: TIGERS EDGED BY WYALUSING (2024-04-19)

MANSFIELD — After tying their game up with Wyalusing in the third inning here Friday, North Penn-Mansfield went scoreless the rest of the way and gave up a sixth-inning run to the Rams to fall 4-3.

Wyalusing scored first, getting a pair of runs across in the first inning before the Tigers answered with two of their own in the bottom of the second. Karson Dominick led off with a single and Riley Oakes doubled to score Dominick, then scored himself on an Easton Pequignot single. 

The Rams went back on top in the third inning, before Mansfield answered in the bottom half when Cade Kurzejewski was hit by a pitch and pinch runner Cameron Caldwell worked his way around the bases, eventually scoring on an error by Wyalusing’s catcher. 

Cooper Shaw, who would be tagged with the loss, threw two scoreless innings before Wyalusing scored the eventual game-winner in the top of the sixth. Shaw took over on the mound in the fourth for starter Dominick, who pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Shaw would go three innings and give up the earned run on three base hits and a walk with one K. Alex Davis threw the final inning, walking one Ram batter.

Dominick had two of Mansfield’s five base hits in the loss, while Oakes had a double and Pequignot and Andy Hermansen each had a hit. Pequignot and Oakes each had an RBI while Dominick, Caldwell and Oakes each scored.

The Tigers (7-4, 3-2 NTL-I) are scheduled to return to play on Tuesday when they visit Wellsboro. Mansfield opened their season with a 9-6 win over the Hornets (2-3).
