NTL SOFTBALL: WELLSBORO GETS MERCY-RULED TWICE IN TROY (2024-04-19)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportTROY, PA — Wellsboro fell victim to a Troy offensive explosion on Friday, giving up 40 runs on 24 base hits across nine innings of play while losing both ends of a doubleheader with the Lady Trojans .. 16-1 and 24-3.
In the 16-1 Game 1 loss, Wellsboro’s Tegan Del Rio hit a solo home run in the second inning and Ari Lawton accounted for the Hornets’ remaining base hit.
Bailee Confer took the loss, going three and a third innings and giving up 16 runs (14 earned) on 10 base hits and eight walks.
The Lady Trojans scored eight runs in the first inning, one in each of the second and third frames and six in the fourth and final inning.
In Game 2, Wellsboro collected six base hits but gave up 14 as the Trojans scored six runs in the first inning, eight in the second and fifth innings and two in the third.
The Hornets scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings.
Paige Logsdon had two base hits, an RBI and a run scored in the loss, and also started in the circle for Wellsboro, pitching into the second inning and allowing nine runs (3 earned) on four hits and four walks.
Mazie Johnson took the loss, going three innings and giving up 13 earned runs on eight base hits and eight walks with one strikeout. Confer threw the final inning and allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk with two K’s.
LeAnna Fuentes had a double for the Hornets and added an RBI while Abby Owlett, Johnson and Del Rio each had a hit and Owlett and Madelynn Losinger each scored a run.
Now 2-5 overall on the season, the Lady Hornets are scheduled to host undefeated North Penn-Liberty on Tuesday. The Lady Mounties took the first match-up, 15-0.
