NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON FALLS TO CANTON (2024-04-22)

CANTON — Williamson outhit Canton but committed five errors that led to the host Lady Warriors claiming a 7-4 win in NTL small school softball action here Monday.

Williamson took a 3-2 lead into the 5th inning but Canton rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 5th and three runs in the 6th. Williamson’s final run in the 7th wouldn’t be enough as Canton claimed the 7-4 win. 

Canton got a run across in the 1st inning before Williamson’s Bailee Smith gave Williamson a 2-1 lead with a two-run home run that scored Kaegan Short, who had walked to lead off the 2nd. 

Williamson had 10 base hits in the game as Smith finished with a pair, two RBI and a run scored, while Lexi Smalley, Short and Laila Hackett each had two base hits. Kenna Thomas had a double and Mikenna Buchanan had the Lady Warriors’ remaining hit. 

Short and Buchanan each had an RBI and Smalley, Short and Buchanan each scored a run. 

Up 2-1 in the top of the 3rd, Williamson made it 3-1 as Short drove Buchanan in with a single after Buchanan reached base on a fielder’s choice. Canton got the run back in the bottom of the 3rd and Williamson’s 3-2 lead lasted until Canton rallied back in the 5th and 6th innings. 

Williamson’s final run came when Smalley singled to lead off the 7th and scored on a Buchanan sacrifice with no outs, but Canton got a pair of fly-outs and a strikeout to seal the NTL-II win.

Gee went all six innings in the circle for Williamson and allowed seven runs (2 earned) on nine base hits and four walks with four strikeouts. 

Williamson (1-8) is scheduled to host Northeast Bradford on Tuesday.
