NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON TOPS SMALL SCHOOL-FOE NORTHEAST BRADFORD (2024-04-23)

ELKLAND — Williamson softball earned a season split with Northeast Bradford with a 6-3 win Tuesday after having lost to the Lady Panthers 3-2 in their season opener. 

Kenna Thomas earned the win for the Lady Warriors going all seven innings and allowing three runs (1 earned) on six hits and a pair of walks with nine strikeouts. 

Williamson collected seven base hits in the win, led by Mikenna Buchanan, who had a double, a single and drove in two runs. 

The Warriors struck first and scored in the bottom of the first inning when Lexi Smalley walked and Buchanan delivered an RBI double for a 1-0 Williamson lead. NEB answered with a run in the second inning but Williamson responded with a big bottom half. 

Laila Hackett drew a one-out walk in the second and after another out, Savanna Dean reached base after being hit by a pitch. Olivia Gee drove both Hackett and Dean home with a single and Thomas scored Gee with a hit and the Warriors led 4-1 after two innings of play.

Williamson added single runs in the both the third and fourth innings as Kaegan Short singled in the third and Joelie Stephens scored her with a hit, followed by Gee reaching base in the fourth and scoring on Buchanan’s second base hit of the game. 

Up 6-1, Williamson surrendered a pair of one-run innings to NEB in the sixth and seventh frames, but the Warriors held on for the small school win. 

Gee, Smalley, Thomas, Short and Stephens had base hits, with Gee adding two RBI and two runs scored, Thomas and Stephens driving in a run each and Smalley, Short, Hackett and Dean all adding a run scored. 

Williamson (3-7) is scheduled to return to play on Friday at Sayre. The Warriors beat the Redskins 18-0 in their previous meeting.
