NTL BASEBALL: INDIANS EDGED BY WARRIORS, 5-4 (2024-04-23)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WESTFIELD — Cowanesque Valley tried to come back from being down 5-0 to Canton here Tuesday, but the Indians would come up just shy and fall to the Warriors, 5-4.

Canton jumped out to their 5-0 lead with a run in the first inning and four in the top of the third. Cowanesque used a trio of walks to score two runs in the bottom of the third, then added two more in the fifth inning.

Nick West drove both Coen Kemp (single) and Carter Ackley (single) in with a single to cut the lead to 5-4 but the Indians couldn’t finish the comeback.

Following a Kemp single and a walk by Hunter Simonds, the Indians had two on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Canton got West to hit into a fielder’s choice where they got the lead runner, Kemp, and then got a fly out to center and a ground out to cut CV’s comeback short.

Kemp finished with a pair of base hits and scored a run, while West had a hit and two RBI, Ackley had a hit and scored twice, Gavin Churchill had a base hit and Kaden Cole scored a run.

Levi Stahli got tagged with the loss, going three and two-thirds and allowing five earned runs on six base hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Jordan Vargeson finished, pitching three and a third innings allowing a lone hit and striking out three.

CV drops to 4-6 on the season with the loss, including a 3-3 mark in the small school division.
