HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON'S THOMAS HITS MILESTONE IN LOSS TO CORNING (2024-04-25)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
CORNING, NY — Playing as the home team on Corning’s field, Williamson entered the 5th inning tied before the 7-2 Hawks scored five unanswered runs late and beat the Warriors 6-1.

Corning-Painted Post came into the game having beaten Williamson 11-5 just a week ago, then suffered their 2nd loss of the season to 12-0 North Penn-Liberty, 6-5. The Hawks other loss came in their season opener to 12-0 Vestal, 5-1.

Williamson gave up a run to Corning to open the game, then answered in the bottom half when Kenna Thomas helped her own cause with a two-out single followed by a Mikenna Buchanan double to tie the game at one.

Thomas would take the loss, going all seven innings and allowing six runs (3 earned) on seven base hits and a walk, but the sophomore also recorded 10 strikeouts in the game, including the 100th of her varsity career.

The Warriors had chances to score with the bases loaded with two outs in the 3rd and getting a runner to 3rd base in the 4th, but neither team could capitalize and they entered the 5th tied at one.

The Hawks plated two runs in the 5th inning and their last three in the top of the 7th, and set the Warriors down in order in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to secure the win.

Buchanan, Thomas, Bailee Smith and Lexi Smalley had Williamson’s base hits in the game. Buchanan had an RBI and Thomas scored Williamson’s run.

Williamson, now 3-8 overall on the season and 2-4 in the small school division, is scheduled to return to play on Friday at Sayre. The Warriors beat the Redskins 18-0 in their first match-up this season.
