LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: WELLSBORO MAJORS FINISH SECOND IN DISTRICT 15 (2021-07-09) Northern Tier West Sports Report ATHENS — The Wellsboro major baseball team had their run through the Pa. District 15 playoffs ended in the finals on Friday, falling to champ Athens 13-5.
Wellsboro entered the tournament as the number two seed out of the West pool, where they beat Tioga Lawrenceville 11-1 and fell to Elkland-Allegheny Mountain 17-8.
After a first-round 8-0 win over Troy, Wellsboro beat Towanda 8-1, setting up a rematch with Elkland-Allegheny Mountain, who they beat 9-3.
Wellsboro lost to Athens 12-2 on Monday, dropping them into the consolation bracket, where they topped Sayre 6-5 to earn a spot in the finals.
