NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON TOPS LINE MOUNTAIN FOR DISTRICT 4 PLAYOFF WIN (2024-05-21)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
LAWRENCEVILLE, PA — The Williamson Lady Warriors hosted Line Mountain for their first round District 4 playoff softball game here Tuesday and came away with a 4-3 win to advance to the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Line Mountain opened the scoring with a run in the top of the 1st inning, but Williamson answered in the bottom half when sophomore Kenna Thomas hit a two-out single, stole second and reached third before being driven in by a Mikenna Buchanan single to tie the game at one-all.

Thomas finished with three base hits in the game, including a double, and scored twice, while Buchanan had two hits, with a double, and drove in two runs.

The Lady Lions retook their lead with a run in the 2nd inning, and after a scoreless 3rd frame, Williamson again tied it up when Laila Hackett laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Kaegan Short, who had reached base on a Line Mountain error.

Short and Bailee Smith had the Warriors’ remaining two base hits while Short scored twice and Hackett had an RBI.

Williamson scored their final two runs in the 5th inning as Thomas stroked a one-out double and would score on a Short single, who would later score on a passed ball to leave the Warriors’ lead at 4-2.

Line Mountain threatened in the 6th inning and did plate their final run when starting Williamson pitcher Olivia Gee walked and hit the Lions’ first two batters. Thomas came in to relieve Gee and got a pair of strikeouts before giving up a single that scored LM’s final run and recording her third strikeout of the inning to limit the damage.

Gee threw five innings for Williamson, allowing three runs (2 earned) on four base hits and a walk with five strikeouts, while Thomas relived the freshman pitcher and threw the final two innings with no runs on two hits and a walk with four K’s.

The Lady Warriors advance to Friday’s quarterfinal round when they’ll visit Muncy to take on the No. 2 seeded Lady Indians. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
