NTL SOFTBALL: MOUNTIES CONTINUE POSTSEASON RUN FRIDAY IN D4 SEMIS (2024-05-23)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT, PA — North Penn-Liberty is set to continue their post-season run on Friday against an unfamiliar Midd-West Mustangs squad that is coming off their first District 4 playoff win in 15 years.

The Class 3A top-seeded Mounties beat Hughesville 3-0 in the first round on Wednesday to run their season record to 19-0. Midd-West, the No. 4 seed, topped No. 5 Lourdes Regional 12-2. The Mustangs last won a District 4 playoff game in 2009.

Midd-West finished the regular season 12-6 with losses coming to: Class 2A No. 1 seed South Williamsport (13-1), twice to 3A No. 2 Loyalsock (12-2, 4-2), twice to 2A No. 4 seed Troy (4-2, 11-10) and to 3A No. 3 Mifflinburg (1-0) in the Lady Mustangs regular season finale.

The Mustangs are led by junior ace Miley Beachel. In Midd-West’s quarterfinal win over Lourdes, Beachel threw the first two innings and gave up two base hits, walked one and struck out four before being pulled with her Mustangs up 11-0.

Liberty got by Hughesville in the quarterfinals thanks to a gem of a game by ace Mackenzi Tice. The Mounties pounded the Spartans pitching up and down their lineup, but just six hits found open field in the 3-0 win.

Friday’s semifinal against Midd-West is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch on Field 1 at the Elm Park softball complex in Williamsport. Tickets must be purchased in advance and online, HERE
